|
|
So...if you got this car for next to nothing, and had to decide which parts to pirate for your 1987 924S, which would be the most important? The car is complete except for an engine.
This is a 1986 951 (944Turbo), but the VIN says it's a "952" -
Sorry, I forgot to check the option code sticker.
Just wondering...for hypothetical purposes only, of course (not!)

| I wouldn't scavenge it. I'd look for a wreck that has the parts to restore the car for a reasonable price. |

Hmm, a 952 is a Right Hand Drive 951. |

That looks like it could be a nice looking car. How about an LS1? _________________ Toofah King Bad

Well, for $8k, I could almost buy a whole 951 WITH an engine. I'd love to put that 3.0 liter race engine in my S - that would be a blast! That "FrankenCar" guy from Missouri on YouTube.com did that with his 924S.
This thing has been sitting outside an import repair place near me for over a year. The owner has two mostly restored 951s and a 911 Turbo in the shop, and he wanted to unload this car for cheap. I left him a deposit and plan to get the car this weekend, weather permitting.
I can really only afford to keep one Porsche right now, and I already have a couple of takes/buyers for some of the parts. I was thinking taking the suspension, brakes and drivetrain components for the S.
LS1? Not familiar with that... The car is far from perfect, but not bad.

suspension, wheels, front clip, on the 924s, sell the dash and any other uneeded interior bits (seats nice??) , rear under spoiler, use that money to buy a set of rear gt flares and pay for any labor needed that you dont want to do yoursel (repaint swapped panels?) . check trans for LSD, swap over if so, or resell .
sell remaining shell cheap to spec racer..... you end up with minimal outlay of shuckles, a late model gt replica, and make a few others happy in the process.. the Porsche gods want you to do this, they are smiling upon you... _________________ Eric

i would put the 924S engine in it and sell the 924S....drive it as my everday car until a good S2 or Turbo engine to come along...
or,
the parts that i would use on the 924S from it would be the torsion bars, sway bars, front alloy wishbones and front hubs/spindles and of course the brembo brakes... |

Oh god, I'm drooling at the thought of having that in my car. And while I'm drooling, my fiance is glaring. _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

Alloy control arms are of a different length, aren't they? _________________ Toofah King Bad

rasta, the 86' ones are the same lengh as the steel arms...obviouly only worth it if the ball joints are tight.
IMO the handling benefits of the alloy arms should'nt be dismissed. and if running 17" rims the porsche recommended 968 castor mounts can be used only on the alloy wishbones too. |

Here's the 951 tranny fluid - drained it and found a few metals chips.
Do these look bad, or normal?

| That does not look normal to me. I would expect that tranny was slammed around some. |
