Hi All,
Finally had a spin in my 77 924 project. First time I have driven it since collecting it last year.(!)
Two problems though - noticed the clutch was groaning on use (release bearing ? how big a job is this?)
and the brake pedal was travelling to the floor quite easily (it has new fron pipes and hoses, but I am wondering if its more than just air in the system?)
Otherwise engine was abit top end rattley but has good oil pressure (2.5 bar at idle)and doesn;t seem to burn undue amounts of oil. No rear axle whine.
Any tips on the two jobs of clutch bearing and brakes?
Thanks
Ian

hi Ian-
sounds like you're on your way to weekend fun in the twisties.
release bearing noise: check out the clutch faq on this site in the tech pages. it's a big job and isn't much fun. it's always recommended to replace the clutch/pressure plate/guide tube/needle bearing while you're in there since it's such a pain to open it up. but it can be done without any special tools, just requires alot of time on your back.
with the brakes- check the master cylinder after you bleed the brakes. i had a leaky one which acted as you described. i couldn't see the leak because the fluid was leaking into the vacuum resevoir, essentially disappearing it seemed.
good luck and enjoy,
-nick |
