|
|
I use the word "custom" in the loosest sense, these are something I slapped together with $10 worth of fibre board and $20 worth of thick marine vinyl. The red nylon pull strap is attached to the door frame on the inside, so it it nice and solid to pull on. The winder handles are Chrysler ones, the VW version wasn't deep enough to reach the winding mechanism given the flat door panels (stock panels are dished). I swapped in manual windows to replace my power ones, and I didn't want to cut a hole in my stock power window door panels as they are still good and could be sold. Thought I'd share some pics in case anyone is ever thinking of taking a similar approach...

I like the pull straps They turned out pretty custom looking. A
lot like something you would find in a 911. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Nice. I have been considering the same thing as I change my brown interior over to black. I would like to do something a little cleaner along the top edge. Yours doesn't look bad though. I've been trying to figure a way of doing this. I definetly like the door pulls wich was another concern I hadn't worked out yet.

Todd, the top of the door panel could be done nicely very easily, it would just take a little more time. With enough measuring and fiddling I could have got the top trim piece the correct size to catch on the metal tabs on the door frame visible in the picture. With a hole for the lock button you'd be set, it would look very clean. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

F@#$in' A! Those straps are awesome! That's sweet. I love it! BTW, how much did those racing seats cost you again? I always considered somewhat of a waste of money if you don't go racing, but I sat in my friends MKIII GTI yesterday with recaros, and holy crap! They're way more comfortable than my stock seats in the Bimmer. |

The seats I got a while ago and had them sitting, before Xmas, can't remember the exact price but they are pretty much the lowest cost one-piece seats you can get, I think $250-$270? Surprisingly, they are more comfortable than the stock seats that came out, no back pain with these at all, which could not be said for the stock seats. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Ya, I would never have thought how comfortable they are until I sat in one. |
