Hi,
I'm the proud owner of european version of 924. But.... comparing to my previous car Fiat Coupe 2.0 20VT i feel the massive lack of power. One pretty day I decided to add the turbocharger; not the biggest one but small, quick spooling, reliable and the most important brand new to retain reliability of a set (I don't want my car to burn as much oil as a fuel ). The choice hit the Garret GT 1749V with the variable geometry from 130 VW GOLF. All I would like to achieve is 0,6, 0,7bar with the stock compression ratio 9,3:1. I intend to install the intercooler and a oil cooler too. Do you think that this turbo will suit my expectations? Please do not dissapoint me with bad news due to the fact that my turbo is already waiting to be mounted But.... ready to punished by the hand of faith... |

That setup should work as long as you keep the boost low, <10psi which is about what your planning on running. If you blow a head gasket I reccomend you switch over to raceware head studs and you might want to consider some kind of ignition system that will allow you to vary timing according to boost, MSD has one of these setups. Another must would probably be an air/fuel gauge, gotta make sure the car is running the right mix and not getting lean. With this setup you should probably be able to see a good 25-30HP, maybe more.
You have any specs on the Garret GT1749V? I'm working on a turbo EFI project myself and I was considering using a T3. _________________ -'87 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 6" of lift 33" Super Swampers

No, i do not have any specification of GT1749V. GT 17 is installed in SAAB 93 2,0 and 2,3 and serves 3 cylinders in saab 95 3.0 V6 (only one turbo installed, interesting, isn't it?)
To be continiously informed about the mixture I would like to install the lambda probe and an electronic equpment to drive 10 LEDs. I have no clue how to solve the timing variation, at the very beginning i would like to leave the stock adjusments as it is now. What about the existing vacuum driven regulations of the timing, wouldn't it work well ? .
In my oppinion creating the EFI system to porsche 924 is not easy. You have to have the research findings and promgram the chip according to them.... |
