| My 924 was running fine and then all of a sudden it just died. I checked the fuel guage and stated empty, so , full some fuel in and then started it up again. However, it turns but won't fire. Plugs and leads appear to be good, any idea's on what it could be or where to check? |

You will need a helper but....
1. Have you checked the timing belt(is it turning the cam),
2. do you have spark at the plugs (pull a wire off at the plug and using a screwdrive in the end of the wire, hold it close to metal while cranking ((if you hold the plastic handle you wont get zapped)), if not;
3. is your distributor turning(pull the cap and crank engine) _________________ Rick

Fuel pump relay and the actual fuel pumps seem to commonly fail on these cars.
Check both.
The type of fuel injection system on these engines requires a relatively high pressure. If the fuel pump fails, the engine will stop suddenly. I had it happen to me. In my case, the pumps had failed (depending on year there are usually two fuel pumps, an in-tank pre-pump and external main pump - some earlier cars only had the one external main pump). But it's possible the relay has failed, which will cut ignition and the fuel pump(s), stopping the engine. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

| just been to look at the fuel pumps, it does not sound right, as in, no sound at all, i did get a slight buzzing sound coming from the rear right hand side, i gather that is one of or the fuel pump, i am check the relay but not the pump, i don't have a set of axel stands. |

| sorted. The fuel pump and fan fuses had well and truely blown, have to find out why, the plastuc had melted. Plus re-seated the fuel pump relay and it is running again, stated straight away. Looks like i need to look at the electrics. find out why the fuses blew, may wait to see if it happens again first. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I was hoping it was not the actual pump, over here in the UK they cost £130.00 just for the pump. Can do without spending that money. |

Glad it was just the fuses... a rare cheap way out!
On the other hand, these cars, at this age, have notoriously bad electrics! Both fan and fuel pump fuses blown? That'd have me worried.
By the way, £130 sounds about right for a fuel pump (maybe a little high but in the ballpark). Mine were about AU$600 (I had to replace both; AU$200-and-a-bit for the in-tank pump and a little less than AU$400 for the main pump, installed). Yes, they're expensive but it's because of the type of pump they are. On the upside, it should last for many tens of thousands of miles from new. Not hugely expensive in that respect. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Mine does this all the time, I have to waggle the relay and the matching fuse and 9 times out of 10 it starts. I have changed the relay once, and several fuses. It took several RAC call-outs before I figured what they were doing. |
