The other day I cleaned out my sunroof draining channels, and realised that from the two rear corners of the sunroof, on the inside of the car...is where a metal tube extends to connect to a plastic tube which drains the water down the sides of the rear of the car. ( i had to peel back my roof lining in order to see this connection. )

It rained hard last night, and this morning I checked to see the rear seat on one side totally soaked. peeling the seat up showed a great deal of water underneath the seat too = [

The plastic tube is connected properly and i tested them, but i wonder if there is any other way of water getting in. the sunroof seal seems ok but the sponge above the roof lining which meets the rear centre of the sunroof is wet and dripping too? how does water get there!?

aside from changing the seals on the sunroof i'm not sure what else it could be?

any ideas are welcome... my toofahs leaky roof must be fixed!

it's probably the roof sealing.

I also had some minor leaks and a noticable wind noise from the roof even though the seals looked ok. So I started by replacing the cheap 20$ seal first (the one connected to the car). It took 5 minutes to replace, and that fixed both problems

I guess even if the seal looks good, it may become compressed as it ages and then its not high enough to keep the water out or make a airtight seal.

One of my sneaky leaks was coming in under that cheaper sunroof seal. To fix, remove the seal, put a thin bead of silicone sealer in it and re-install. The water comes from the outer channel (that has the 4 drain holes), sneaks under that seal, up, down and in apparently by capillary action.
If you have water between the headliner and roof and it's coming in under this seal, you probably need to remove the seal, then seperate the headliner from that edge and reglue it (with contact cement), then re-install the seal - again with silicone sealer.

ahhh...i think you both got it

when i inspected that seal it did look a bit mis-shapen.

the capilary action seep-through sounds like the culprit. i'm gonna hit it with the silicon sealer as you suggested smoothie.

thanks to you both,

hmm no joy with the silicon sealer approach...

I still have water coming in.

I think I will have to replace the seal with a new one....here's a photo to show where the water is coming from...you can see the end of a peice of foam which stretches the width of the sunroof and is above the head liner (which i accidentally just tore!! )

It is totally drenched...and is dripping water everywhere.

Another possibility is the rear hatch hinges - may be coming in around them if they're not sealed.
-Also the rear hatch seal.. It fits over the headliner in that area, right? Water could be getting in above the headliner from there.

Another quicker-easier thing to try is to slip short pieces of hose (approx. 1/2" (13mm)) over the parts of the latches that clamp and pull it down - to cause them to pull down tighter.

-And if the curve of the sunroof panel doesn't match the curve of the roof, there's an adjustment rod (adjustable from one side with a screwdriver) that can be tightened to put more curve into the panel at its' rear - or obviously loosened to decrease the curve.
