Doing a little tune-up work and I found a set of Bosh Platinums and a set of Splitfires in my parts boxes. Any pros or cons with either brand? What would be the proper gap for each set? The Bosch says .028 on the box the Splitfires say nothing. My 924 maunal says .024 for regular Bosh or Champion plugs....
As usual, thanks everyone....

Those 2 plugs are the absolute worst choices. Go for the regular Bosch plugs, they are more than adequate.

I tried the splitfires when they first came out. Didn't notice any difference.

Since then, they've been forced to back off some of their claims about improved gas mileage and performance. Also have been stories about one of the nodes breaking off and ruining the side of the cylinder walls and how the spark has a tendency to jump only to the same node after awhile, making them just an expensive single node plug.

Most information I've read about them says they're not worth the extra money. But it's your money.

I've used champions before but not in my 924. No complaints.

Why not go with the Bosch platinums?

I have to agree with Diesel. I have had nothing but problems with the Bosch Platinum plugs. I have tried them several times in a variety of customers cars and I hate them!! They missfire, don't fire or just idle like crap. The splitfires don't seem to be any better than standard plugs. They just don't live up to the hype. I'd run them before the Platinums though. If you want a good long lasting workhorse of a plug, go with the standard Bosche plug. If you want a little more refined better idleing but short lved plug, go with standard NGK's. JMTC

Same results here on my NA.
Put the magic bean spitfires in since you have them.
Go with Bosch copper; or I just found some OEM Bosch silver plugs and they seem to work well so far.

It's common knowledge among professional mechanics that Bosch Platinums misfire. They should be banned by the EPA they destroy so many catalytic converters. As far as Splitfires, when they first came out I saw one spit the porcelain portion right out of the head, leaving the threaded part in place. Some quality there.

I use Autolite plugs in my 931 after trying many others. My second choice is Champions.

I too tried the plats, my 931 would not even idle.

I put NGK Silver in mine back in March, they've worked very well and are still pretty clean.

I used to use NGK's until I changed them out on my wifes SUV. All of them had been leaking between the metal and ceramic. Now I'm back to Autolite and Champion.

I use the Bosch W7DTC Tri-Electrode (copper) on my 924 and Audis.

Based on this topic I swapped out my Bosch platinums for a set of Champion coppers today. It does seem smoother with the coppers, might be psychological, or maybe the Bosch platinums really do misfire, I had never heard of this problem before.

Slightly hotter than stock NGKs is what I've been running, because of all the sloppy oil control. They burn that stuff right up. Starts better cold with them than with stock Bosch or Autolite plugs.

I ran platniums in the 78 I had and it ran ok for 2 months then got high speed glazing on it and wouldnt run at all,
I have tried the NGK Iridium ones they lasted abit longer, but the hottest spark I coud ever get was from bosch coppers.
