I purchased some 22mm wrist pin bushings to use with my VW pistons although it seem that they do no fit the pins... can anyone confirm whether machining is needed to fit the parts together...??
Also the OD of the bushing seems to be about 27mm... So I am assuming that the bushings need to be turned down to fit the stock rods...

Hmmm... I had mine installed by a machine shop, let them deal with that.

Are there already bushings in there which need to be removed first?

I don't think so... I've never pulled apart the block before.
Basically it's a bushing to make up the slack between the stock 24mm pin and the new VW 22mm pin...
It just suprised me that the bushings were 27mm OD, I would have thought they were closer to 24mm OD for the stock rod...
What I'm trying to work out is if I have the wrong bushing, or whether I have to increase the rod ID and reduce the bushing OD to get an approximate match....basically what to take off where...
I'm definately with you on this one Vaughn and I may just dump it in the machine shops lap, just hoping I might at least give them some info on what other people have done first...

Stock rods DO have bushings that need to be removed first.

I think you have to have them machined and pressed home and then reamed out to fit your small end. I got bushes for the 931 pistons from JE via EBS and thats what we had to do.

AS an aside you also had to mill the side faces of the rods down as the porsche rods are too wide.

All worked fine though.

Cheers
Simon

The bushings definitely need reamed after being pressed in.

Just a note - the JE pistons require milling the sides of the small end of the rod. The VW pistons leave plenty of space and you don't have to do this.
