I was wanting to know if this would be much of a benefit and how much work would be involved in it?

Switching from a 4 to 5 speed is well easy. Caution you need the shifter bar from the 5 speed. Remove and install both.
The big difference is in driving on the hwy. In 4th with a 4 speed the engine tops out while with a 5 speed you get to shift and of course you have a fifth gear.
Better gas mileage too.
