Who could have guessed it, but my car is going to live again. After finding a good deal on another engine i've decided to do the only logical thing, put it in!
But in the process it would be a good idea to change components so i dont have to worry about them in the future. what im thinking of is
- oil pump
- water pump
- injectors ?
- gaskets
- coolant hoses
- thermometer
- CSV
- aux air valve ?
im asking thou, are there any more things that are good to change while you are in there?
also, an aprox price of what this would cost?
PS. im doing all the work myself so dont count mechanic hours _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

I wouldn't change anything other than rotten coolant hoses and just clean the injectors instead of replacing them. Only change the gaskets if there is an actual leak. Probably change the water pump if it's super old or just replace it when it starts to leak, it's easy to replace. thermostat is also a good idea.
I wouldn't replace anything else, it's not like you're rebuilding the engine.
for gaskets, maybe just make sure that there are no air or exhaust leaks, the exhaust manifold gaskets will be way easier to replace with the engine out. You can also replace your intake manifold gasket/ fuel injector seals if you have a vacuum leak.
definately don't change the oil pump if you don't know if it's bad. Oil pump will rarely be bad. If the engine has low oil pressure it probably needs a rebuild soon. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Check your engine mounts and anything at the back of the head needs a look at, temp sensor, etc, starter wiring.

oil pump & gaskets definitely, though I wouldn't worry about injectors, CSV, AAV, & most of the cooling system as those can easily be replaced engine in. I'd take a look under the valve covers and try to replace the things that are just a pain in the neck with the engine installed, including the starter, the exhaust manifold gaskets, oil seals, take a look at the clutch. + what ozzie said. _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild

when removing the exhast manifold, what way is best, from above or underneath?
another thing, when turning the engine by the crankshaft bolt, is it normal for the engine to click its way forward? _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

I think you have to get under it eventually to get at those 3 little bolts holding the manifold to the pipe. As for clicking Id say probably not, you better check it out sooner rather than later... just sayin. _________________ 1977.5 924 "Martini" head / New Old Stock rebuild

I would remove the motor with the exhaust manifold in place, just disconnect the header pipe. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Paul and Stampede are correct, get under the car and you can access all the bolts holding the manifold to the down pipe with a long extension. However, there are five bolts under there, at least there were on my car. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
