is this for the 4 lug or 5 lug? Not sure if there is a rotor size difference. Assuming there is. |

The drums on my 77' are pretty beat to hell. One side won't even come off which is why it's "sticking" i found.
So i'm at the point where i'm ready to replace it, or upgrade it (to get rid of it entirely).
Any recommendations? I was talking to stefan and he said if i went with the 944 setup i'd have to swap over the suspension too? I like my brakes on my 944. I could see that being pretty sweet on the 924. Mostly for the purposes of less maintenance and ease of changing pads and maintenance would be my main reason longterm as frequent brakeshoe adjustments are annoying to me lol. I hate hate hate hate working on drum brakes. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

when you convert from the four lug to the 5 lug what all do you need from the 944
also does the 944 use studs or bolts to hold teh wheel on like the four bolts do
im doin an engine swap so i will prolly want to get the 951 brakes rite _________________ The Ginger

I'm busy resurrecting old threads.
I ordered Centric brand(PN# 14133030) 1991 Passat calipers yesterday for $36 each from rockauto. I will measure the mounting holes and post a pic.
The clips and pins for the old brakes cost more than the new calipers. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |

1991 Passat calipers
Measurements seem correct so far.

This is a crap pic but it gives me some hope. Looks to me to be 106mm and I am about 95% sure the bolt holes will line up. What I don't know is if the thing will line up over the rotor etc... I am a little gun shy on ripping it all apart. I don't think the brakes lines have ever been replaced and I wanted to make sure I had a working set of originals. I WILL make sure to post the outcome. This would keep the 4 lug alive for a long time. In my case the spider web wheels have to remain for the Weissach.
Also gathering front suspension parts to get that refreshed. This is the final mechanical push for me.
The dang brake hardware, clips and pins cost $35 at best. New Passat calipers and pads delivered is $100. Pads are $15!

Do they have different piston diameter as mentioned above in the old posts? _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Pretty useless upgrade to only upgrade calipers....
If someone has a decent upgrade to ventilated disks and preferably rear disk brakes to while keeping the 4 lug pattern I would be interested. _________________ /Magnus, Stockholm Sweden

This piston is larger, I think 55 compared to stock 48, I will measure it. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |
