I have a 1988 924s that I has a popup roof. When hitting the button either way the sunroof did not go up or down. You can hear the motor run but that's about it. (Note I only hear motor run when switched is pressed one way and not the other) I first got into the gear area by the popup roof thinking it was worn gear as I've read hear about that being tyical problem. Yes gears were worn slightly but I noticed there was no cable up there at all. I then traced it back to the motor in the drivers side rear wheel well. I noticed that the enitre cable is now in the wheel well. I was going to try to get the motor to feed the cable back up to the sunroof but like mentioned before the motor only runs when the switch is pushed in one direction and not the other. Of course it is turning in the opposite direction to feed the cable back towards the sunroof so it won't take the cable in. If I press the switch the other direction the motor doesn't move at all. I'm thinking that it's either the switch is bad or possibly the motor. I ended up stopping that night and will start again this weekend. (If wife can leave me alone) I don't recall if the motor or switch is a 2 wire or 3 wire. (Shhhh. I'm at work so please don't the boss that I'm at http://www.924board.org) I was planning on switching the wires at the switch to see if the motor then operates in the direction to feed cable towards the popup roof. Am I going about this correctly to determine which is bad? Does anyone have any suggestions or input that they are willing to offer?

I'm having the exact same problem with my S. any help would be appreciated!

i had to manually feed the cable back up to where it was supposed to be and locked down the sunroof or it will flap in the wind.

My sunroof is manual, but I have had many problems with switch's. I am usually able to dissmantal the switch (be carefull there are small springs inside and if they pop out they are hard to find). Clean the switch and reassamble it. Ive rebuilt three switches so far no problems yet.
