Hi all, ok i got this very interesting fuel pump relay...it never starts the fuel pump untill i bypass the relay on a power wire...
i wonder if it's my relay is shot to death or is it something in the wiring, but i just can't get it to work unless i bypass it |

What year car and is it a 924 or 924 Turbo?
What is the part number of the relay?
You might have the wrong relay for the car.
Been down that road before.

Are you jumping between posts 30 and 87? If so try jumping between 15 and 87. If the car starts the relay is bad. If it doesn't start your switch is bad. BTW don't run it too long on the 15/87 jump as it can overload the switch.

By switch I assume you mean the ignition switch?

the year of 924N/A is '77
and the relay # is 477 906 059... i have checked and it's a right number for my car...but all i need now is the new relay and it's so expensive here.
Btw I am bypassing 87 one, i just connect a power to the 87's wire and then the fuel pump works but to shut it off i have to disconnect the battery.

John,
Yes, I did mean the ignition switch. Thanks for the correction.
Simply stated, the relay sends battery voltage (30) to the fuel pump (87) when voltage is applied from the ignition switch (15). When you jumper 30 and 87 you are bypassing the relay and ignition switch. When you jumper from 15 to 87, you are bypassing the battery voltage with switched (lower amp) power from the ignition switch. If you don't get power from the 15 connection with the ignition on, your ignition switch is bad.
I unwittingly drove my 78 928 with 15 and 87 jumpered for a month. Guess the PO didn't want to wait on a relay. He did put an inline 20A fuse in the jumper. 8^(
