|
|
Anyone know if the suspension and brakes from 86 944 Turbo would swap onto a 924 Turbo? The 86 Turbo uses the early 944 wheel offset, so my thinking is it would work great on 924 Carrera GTS replica and would give a nice big brembo brake update simular to what the original GTS had. I've seen guys do this to early 944's before and I think the 924 Turbo is basically the same as the early 944. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I would guess I will need to swap out the hubs, spindles, control arms, trailing arms, rotors, etc. |

Do a search it has been discused before. I'm going to do it to my 931 but it will be awhile before I do.
The front will require the spindle, strut, hub and brake. The 951 spindles don't have the hole for the speedo cable so you will have to find another way to drive the speedo or possibly drill the 951 spindle to get a speedo.
The brake lines have to be routed diffrent and a bias valve installed.
I'm not sure but the rear I think it just needs the calipers and discs if your car has rear discs and the stock spacer washer for the rear calipers. If it has drum brakes then you also need the backing plate, parking brake and cables and hub.
I haven't done the conversion yet so I don't know if anything else is needed or not that is just what I remeber from when I looked into it last year. There should be alot of info on it in the archives though as it has been brought up. There is also a company iirc that was making brake upgrades for the early 944 that would be easier to convert to if you already have disc brakes I think it was mentioned here a few time if not try searching on pelicanparts forums. _________________ 80 924

Oh I frogot you will likely also need new rims. Not all 16" rims clear the calipers. _________________ 80 924

Kaffine, you're wrong in that, even lot of 15" wheels fit with 951 calipers. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Do you know which 15" rims fit? I've tried 15" spiderwebs but they wont fit and 16" Fuchs from a 911 wont fit. _________________ 80 924

My firend has '73 911 racecar with 951 suspension fabricated to fit (we did it, yes major PITA), it has M030 big front calipers + rear regular 951 ones and we used Sebring 15 inch 3-piece old rims on that. But, if the 15" fits depends on the offset and shape of the rim. Cookie cutter didn't fit. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

on the 4 piston calipers I dont think that ANY 15" rim will fit, I have yet to be proven wrong but the only 16" rims that will fit are flatdishes, Cup, Cup2, and most of those have less that 2 mm of clearance between the edge of the rim and the caliper which isnt good for heat during racing _________________ 3 928s, |

The 4 piston calipers will fit with 15 inch rims on the front only , they will not fit on the back if you are using 951 suspension. _________________ 928 gts prototype

hmm, are you sure about the front and not the rear, as the rears I could see having enough clearance, but not the fronts. _________________ 3 928s, |

Yes , if using a 951 rear suspension the rear brakes will not clear 15 inch wheels the front will, the calipers are the same physical size F-B. _________________ 928 gts prototype

Early 951 had front and rear calipers with the same physical size (so called baby brembos) Later 951 had bigger front and smaller rear calipers.
I have 951 baby brembos rear and front with cookie-cutter 15 x 7 rims and 23mm offset. The rear suspension is from 951 as well. |

arx is right
And some 15" wheels fit with Big fronts too, though clearance is very tight. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
