Can the existing ceramic plug where the O2 sensor connects to the harness be replace with a simple single pole connector? The wireing diagram shows a single wire with what appears to be an outer strand for grounding? It crumbled in my hands. If not, what's the part number for either the plug or the entire wire? I've got the PET 5 but can't find any part number.  |

That's a co-axial wire with the outer wire serving as an interferance shield. In OE form, it's grounded only at the lambda box under the dash. For the wire, a good substitute would be automobile co-ax antenna wire from some place like Radio Shack.
If the connector's shot, I'd use something like this -
