Feels good doesn't it ? The difference in mine was astounding after it got all new synchros and a 2nd gear dog-tooth gear. And having an LSD is more fun than a barrel of monkeys, bon appetit !

This particular unit is not LSD...at least not yet... I'm working on that too, heheh!

Won't know how it feels until I get it in the car, but yeah, I'm really really looking forward to driving with the dog leg pattern and no crunchie gears.

So no guesses as to which one it's going in, eh?!

So who did the rebuild? Or, did you buy it as a rebuilt unit?

This particular unit was rebuilt for a 944 race car, and was never installed due to the owner running out of funds and scuttling the race car project. So it sat in his garage for <12 months, waiting for me

I have two sources for rebuilds. I am currently doing some initial negotiations to see if I can put together a "group buy" on rebuilt snail shells. I can get firm commitments on labor costs, but the parts are tricky because it is somewhat dependent on the exact model of snailshell, and how bad it is. But I am trying to get things narrowed down.

I will have three add'l snailshells that I may rebuild. One of them will definitely be a bonafide LSD. The other two will be spares or resells. I'll post a separate thread when I have more firm commitment on whether a group buy might come together.

FYI, shipping is ~$75 one way, so you would need to add $150 to whatever the final cost of rebuild ends up being...

If you don't already have them a new set of shifter knuckle bushings make all the difference in the world.$29.99 well spent.

Well, let us know how long the new synchro's last. I have more than 20K on my first gear synchro's, but I have replaced second gear synchro's twice, and did not get more than 5K on either set.

Gulp! 5K?! That's not too good. This box was supposedly built for a 944 race application; hopefully, that means it will withstand normal driving abuse.

I hope to have this in the car in 2-3 weeks. It's going in the 931 that I'm bringing back from ID. We leave this coming Friday and will hopefully be pulling the new addition into the garage sometime on Sunday evening, barring any mechanical issues on the trip home. The new gearbox will be the first improvement to go into that car.
