Thinking of changing the stock coil in my '78 924NA to an aftermarket coil. Question is should I go ahead and change the ballasts as well or is there no reason to do so?
Thanks |

What's wrong with your coil? That coil will produce a stronger spark than you'll ever need.

| Nothing is really wrong with the coil that I know of. Just heard that when they start getting old they get a bit weak. Seeing as my coil is the original from 20 some years ago I figured it wouldn't hurt to put a new one on. |

| Coils do not get weak with age. There is nothing to get weak. An automotive "coil" is actually a transformer. That is, two coils of wire wound around each other and seperated by an insulator. The can type are filled with oil that acts as both an insulator, and provides some cooling. This type of transformer will work at full efficiency until it shorts out, at which point it will not work at all. |

| I put a new coil in my 81 924 it did not make a difference in performance. Coils are either working or the car wont start. |
