No fight, just learnin' something new
ps- my "pup" is at a distinct disadvantage since she can only see when the wind blows the hair out of her eyes... Although, Smoothie's pup might be so embarrassed about having to wear that flannel that he'll just forfeit. heh heh.

My granparents neighbours had a sheep dog when I was growing up (I think that is what your's is), had to be the friendliest dog I have ever known, which was a little intimidating given the size. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Hey! My dog in my avatar is getting jealous! (I don't let him drive anymore since he almost got busted for speeding in a construction zone.)

I've always wondered if this hole was for a mechanical fuel pump for the carb version of this motor....

It's a good question. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to buy a performance header. I've heard different stories, the stock one is fine, a performance one could help, performance ones are prone to cracking, etc etc etc. I still haven't decided what to do. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Looks good to me.
How common are oil leaks from the back of the cam cover, where the distributor housing is? I know it's a problem on some 944s, and our 924 seems to be leaking there too. _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor

I'm pretty sure I have an oil leak there on my 1980, and the engine I took out of the 77 appeared to have an oil leak in that spot too. That being said, I didn't do anything different in the assembly that I think would stop it. Gasket sealer, gasket and appropriate torque. Maybe there is some design flaw or issue with heat at the back of the engine that causes the gasket to fail sooner. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Yeah those rubber gaskets that go at the front and rear of the cam cover can use an extra dollop of gasket sealer at each end wher the flat meets the round cutout... I think the cam cover gaskets that go along the sides are not built up enough where they meet the other rubber gasket and you get a small opening there.

More minor progress, rear coolant housing installed. I'll change out the thermo time switch and temperature sensor with the new items when they arrive...

More minor progress, cam sprocket installed and valve cover installed. Of course, I'll have to lift the valve cover to install the head bolts, but I figured I'd get the gaskets laid and everything buttoned up for now to keep things clean. Sealant only on the bottom of the valve cover gaskets in any case, so getting it off is no problem...
