No, it will still be a summer hobby car. I like being able to insure it for $125 a year under a collector policy, and that excludes using it as a daily driver.

Well, me and a friend started at 10:00 this morning and I came in at 8:00 this evening. Pulled the old engine and installed the new. Lots of little details taken care of, new motor mounts, new starter, new clutch disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing, new fuel line to the bottom of the fuel filter, and some other things I am probably forgetting. Feels good to get it in place. Unfortunately I won't have time for a few weeks to get back to putting the fuel, cooling and electrical together. Still, it was a big step today, worth a picture and an update...

Stock exhaust manifold isn't that bad once it's gasket matched at the downpipe. There's usually a ton of weld around the inside of the DP which doesn't help either. I certainly think it's good enough for anything you're going to see out of a 7000rpm 2.0 924.

I kept going back and forth on a header, maybe I should, maybe I shouldn't. Same with the lightened flywheel, maybe I should maybe I shouldn't. The longer term plan is to stroke the bottom end that is in the car currently and combine it with the bigger valve head, that incarnation will likely get further upgrades, lightened flywheel, electronic ignition and fuel injection. The electronic fuel/ignition is the one area where I know zero, so that should be scary.

Joe, mostly for the reasons above...

A quick note on engine installation, wasn't too bad a job, a little tricky.

I couldn't imagine doing it without using the factory lift points that attach to the intake manifold bolts. Hooking the hoist onto those lift points keeps the egine nice and level at just the right slant to install. Once we got a few bellhousing bolts started, it was clear sailing.

The lighten flywheel is a must , also did you upgrade the factory camshaft?
did you stroke the engine? What CR ?
there is no way the stock manifiold will flow like an MSDS header, or a good tri-y header ( piper i think ) look at the 924 cup cars out of the UK there is some parts there you can use...

Euro pistons, 9.3:1 compression. Stage 1 cam from Euro Race, still a pretty mild profile so I can retain CIS for now, recommended match for their big valve head while retaining stock injection. Didn't stroke or increase bore, I may eventually do that with the engine that just came out of the car.

Euro Race (as it was called in the 80s) is now European Motorworks, ask for Jorge:

(310) 644-8038
(800) 722-8678 (in the US)

http://www.europeanmotorworks.com/

Hmmm, never noticed that before. That must be wrong, according to the housebrown thread from a few months ago, you can't produce and profit (even slightly) from an adjustable timing gear at less than something like $300.

Did you first clean your engine bay before you put the engine in the car?
