Hi Guys
i went to a breakers yard today and saw a partialy dismantled 944 and a 911.
I was going to buy myself a steering wheel but was not sure if they were interchangeable. So my rather long winded question is this.Do the 944,911 steering wheels fit a 924?

I've been told that I have a 944 steering wheel.

Check the picture, and if the one you have seen in the breakers yard is like this, it should fit.

It'll probably fit if the years are reasonably close (ie, non-airbag car). Porsche was pretty good about making the simple stuff standard and therefore interchangeable. Same with seats, rims, etc. Saves money for not having to design new parts. Ford has only just recently come around to this design philosophy - which relies on them not making junk parts to begin with, so you're not ashamed to put the same wiper switch from your econobox into your top-of-the-line luxury car.

The steering wheel in the picture is the same as the one i saw.
So im going to go back and buy it.
I think the 944 steering wheel is an improvement on the standard 924 wheel.

nazri,

I've posted some info in the "About the Board" forum about including pictures with your posts.

Ants

The four spoke was stock on a 931 for 82
Optional for 81

This is from what I've seen in the field.

I'll check the book to be sure

I think this is what a stock NA 924 steering wheel looks like:

That is the two spoke common to most 924's. My early '80 931 has the two spoke also, but with factory leather wrap.

I changed mine over from a three spoke to a four spoke and really like it. It sits a little closer to me and it's got a smaller diameter so it gives more room below for your legs. Makes entry and exit easier. But having it closer really made a difference in steering; much easier. It makes it just a little longer reach to the stalk switches though. I think you'll like it.
