I really like the idea of upgrading to a watercooled housing,
Any other housings besides the prefurred 951 housing. Goin back
to Nicks statement of other Audi units working.

SO if I buy a K26/6 I can make my euro S1 K26 into a watercooled turbo? By bolting it all together?

Why do I keep seeing that it needs to be a K26/8?

It depends which K26/6 you are talking about. The Porsche 944 K26/6 doesn´t fit and the Audi K26/6 doesn´t have watercooling, but there are other versions of course.

If you're having a turbo professionally rebuilt, just get the center bearing section from a standard 951 water-cooled turbo, and tell the rebuilder to use the bearing housing from the 951 unit. Use the turbine wheel, turbine housing, turbine shaft, compressor housing, and compressor wheel from the 931. Only the bearing housing needs to be replaced to make it water cooled.

Found while surfing the net, might be useful to someone researching turbos. It's BorgWarner/3k/schwitzer's page.

http://www.turbodriven.com/en/turbofacts/nameplate.aspx

http://www.turbodriven.com/en/products/default.aspx

I shot them an email regarding my 6407 turbo looking for a compressor map. I'll post if I find something out.

That is a K26-2664G4.10 turbo and there is a map from Audi 100 turbo available here on the forum.

I think this is the correct map. So, if I am reading this correctly, and my 2407 is similar to this audi 2664 map, then this turbo is suitable for 12psi?

PR of 1.8 at .014 m3/s puts me at 72% efficiency range at 6000rpm
and PR of 1.8 at .08 m3/s puts me 65% efficency at 3500rpm?

Did I get this right?

Yes, more or less bolt on together with the compressor wheel and backplate. Just make sure that the height of the wheel measured from the backside of the backplate is the same (or close). There are different wheels: flatback and superback. They goes with either the flat backplate or the one with a recess

something to add...

I have been doing a metric S**t tun of research on how to put together the best turbo for my car and I came across an interesting fact that has been referenced as similar.

Carrera gts turbo = K26-2670GA8.10
951 s2 turbo = k26-2670gga8.11

and cross-referencing part numbes I have found out that infact the gts compressor wheel and the 951 250hp compressor wheel are one in the same oem part number 5326-123-2201

also very similar turbine housings
Carrera gts = GA8.10
951 s2 = gga8.11

very similar VE numbers

the following is a comparison of the 2670 compressor wheel vs the 2664 compressor wheel of a stock 931 s1 turbo because I am trying to find out if I can source a 2670 wheel and bore my compressor housing to match it

951 s k26-2670gga8.11
5326-970-7042

K26 Superback compressor wheel 6 blades
OE part # 5326-123-2201

part# / wheel diamiter / inducer dia / tip height / bore ID / trim
5326-123-2201 / 66,00 / 46,10 / 4,90 / 6,80 / 49

5326-123-2016 / 65.94 / 41.98 / 6.84 / 6.80 / trim??

5326-123-2016 is the 2664 trim compressor wheel OE part number from 4607 OE s1 turbo

it seems that its not going to be possible because the tip height is larger on the 2664 than 2670 so you would actually have to add metal and rebore to the size

the 2664 has larger tip heights but a much smaller inducer diameter 41.98 vs 46.10 for the 2670

just thaught this was cool information that I could share..

so it seems my 81... has an early turbo: 2664 front end... But it has the late manifold... and I always thought the you can't put an early turbo on a late manifold?

So im not sure what hot side I have?? either way, what performance differences would I notice? since I've always read the early turbo was more desirable?

I have that turbo on my car (S1 car with s2 engine), i is significantly better at high rpms. But lost quiet a lot of the bottom en compared to the s2 turbo that was on there from the beginning..
