|
|
The car I acquired this weekend may be a Weissach Special Edition. It appears to be original paint in the correct color, has the right mud flaps, turbo spoiler, spider web wheels (painted black with silver face), etc. The VIN is WP0AA092XBN451335, which is very very similar to all four of the Weissachs listed in the register. The car has a dash cap that I haven't completely removed yet (for fear of breaking it)...but I understand the Weissachs may have had a commemorative plate somewhere on the dash. Anyone know where I should look? Also, the paint code sticker is missing, and I can't find the factory option code sticker. Where should I be looking for the options codes?

Heheh! yeah, I saw it listed in the for sale section, and it was only 3.5 hours away...couldn't resist, especially for the price.
However, I'm not keeping this one...it's already sold to my brother-in-law...he and I are going to restore it for my nephew...just adding to the toofah fanatic club _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Option code sticker?
Where ever the dealer felt like sticking it!
Try under the carpet in the hatch area, near the tail lights. |

Well, there's no option code sticker in the glove box or anywhere in the hatch compartment that I can see. Also, there's no plaque on the glove box (not sure if ricomartinez meant the plaque or the option code sticker was on the glove box).
It just seems strange...if this isn't a WSE, someone sure went to a lot of trouble to make it look like one...the search for the truth continues... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Hey, stranger things have happened! Someone here's trying to "morph" a toofah into a '44! Image what the next owner's gonna think...

| The commemorative plaque is on the glove box. It's a approx. 2in by 3in brass-like rectangle that has the special edition number (mines #50) with Ferry Porsche's signature on it. Since mine is no. 50 and the Weissachs celebrated the 50th anniversary of Porsche, do you think mine is worth more? Gotta be an extra 50 cents I figure. |

I don't think the plate was a factory installed item. I have never seen one myself on a Weissach Special Edition, and the magazine write-ups on the Special Edition show the glove box covers of several of the cars, and there isn't any plate on them either.
But there were 400 of the cars made, and with a US Market 1981 production of less then 2200 924 cars, the odds are you will see a fair number/percentage of these Special Edition cars if you are only looking at 81s.
Personally, I think the exterior color does not very exciting, but I do like the interior combination. And the list of features that come on the cars that were not normally available on NA cars is rather nice, even though they all became standard options for the 1982 model year. |

Mine does not have a commemorative plaque on the glove box. Interesting that it was not a factory item. Gohim, you mentioned a list of features...in addition to the spoiler, mud flaps, side molding, silver-on-black spiderwebs wheels, and cloth interior, are there any other options or clues I should be looking for??? For example, my car has a black "decal" that says 924 on the door sills, but I'm not sure if that is a factory item or aftermarket. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| Your car sounds very similiar to my 924 .... mud flaps, side molding, spoiler, spiderwebs, Pasha cloth interior, It also seems to have larger sway bars (and has a rear sway bar) ... I don't have any plaque in my glovebox. |
