So, what makes the euro engine produce more horses than the same year US engine? The difference betweeen 95hp and 125hp is kind of a kick in the teeth for us Yanks.o

The difference is the compression ratio 8.0:1 vs 9.3:1. I belive the emissions control was the reason for the lower ratio in the US.

the emission gear was different. The Aus/UK cars and probably all cars not destined for Nth America/Japan were tuned for leaded fuel - more advance, no cat. and they were lighter too with fibreglass bumpers.

different ignition distributors (calibrated different) and pistons, and no emmisions, are probably the main thing. If you look at the curves in the haynes for the ignitions, I belive one of the old US 924s has a good curve, so it's a good tuning trick bolt on.

Anyone looking for a Euro distributor can e-mail me. I've got one from a 79.

Yeah its the compression ratio and Cat, fortunately we didn't have to have Cats and so could develop more power, Turbo's even more so.

Think again about the distributors; sure, the curves are different, but mainly just in when you get full advance - comes in quicker in the Euro. You still get the same amount of total advance from the advance mechanism.

Just advance your static/base/idle advance setting. Problem solved. Also consider that once you get to 2000-2500RPM you're at full advance anyway.
