Last night, my Rustang buddy (Larry) and I drove down to Covington IN to pick up the wide body 931. We left my house about 4 PM EDT, and got to Covington at about 9 PM IST (Indiana Stupid Time), not too bad considering a refuel / pitstop / dinner and all of the combines we had to dodge.
Anyway, we shoot the shiznit for a while, then take care of business, and head back to Lafayette to spend the night. The guy lives in the middle of nowhere ... well, actually, in the middle of Portland Arch National Nature Preserve. We get out on IN41, my first chance to really open it up and see how she goes. I'm doing about 65 mph, not more than 10 miles out and this MASSIVE 'possum strolls out into the middle of the road ... no chance to brake or dodge ... just WHAM!-CRACK!-SPLAT! ... 'possum pancake blasted all over the road. Here's the end result
Well, more fiberglass repair on the front valance.
We left Lafayette this morning at 7AM IST, and I pulled into my drive at 12:50PM EDT...made better time this morning. Rest of the trip was pretty uneventful.
Once the car was home (and it was daylight), I looked a bit more closely, and darn if the car doesn't have an oil cooler in addition to an intercooler!!! The oil cooler is pretty small, maybe 12 inches wide, 4 inches high, and an inch or two deep. Here's a photo:
Also, it has one of these to help set the timing:
The car has some mechanical issues, but I'll put those posts over in the 931 thread. Also, it sucks exhaust in thru the hatch like there's no tomorrow. Hatch seal will be the FIRST thing I replace. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made

That sucks Dan, the valance that is. Stupid 'possum, just added 2 hours of repair time to our job.
As far as the oil cooler goes that is stock 931 stuff. _________________ MJ

No doubt about it. I'm thinking about putting the 928 club sports on this car to see how they look. The fronts are 16x7 and the rears are 16x9.5 (or something like that). Same bolt pattern, so I should just be able to add a 7mm spacer to the front and a 22-28mm spacer to the rears. Ultimate plan for the shark is to get some 17" lightweight 3-pc (black anodized spokes with polished rim). _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Never go possum hunting in a sports car. I would recomend a Pinto or a Gremlim.
Is it legal to keep your road kill in Indiana? mmmmm possum stew. _________________ 1981 924 NA
