To anyone who can help....

My story is a long and sad one, I first saw this 87 924S through a friend of mines father, He had let the timing belt go and in turn all of the valves had been bent. Falling in love with the car instantly, I paid way too much (and still do not regret it) Having a fair knowledge of fixing engines and going to school for it I decided to try it myself, So I fixed it and thats where I made my first mstake. I used a cheap aftermarket timing belt. So I had the car runnung for literaly 10 mins and the timing belt snapped clean in half. Not feeling too discouraged too much, I decided to try it again. so 6 months later and nearly $2000 later I'm ready to crank it over again. This time I bought a good belt and tensioned it properly but the car only cranks. I checked the basics, spark, fuel, compression and still nothing. (for fuel I removed the return line and gas spurted out so I'm assuming its reaching the cylinders, also I tested the circut using a noid light) anyone please help....I'm getting nervous. thanks Johnny

Cheap timing belt or not, it should never have broken in ten minutes. Before you crank any more, I strongly recomend you check the bearings on the belt tensioner. If they are worn they will heat up, seize and either heat and streth the belt or break it. I have seen this over looked by many good mechanics. If you checked the tensioner, idlers disregard my advice. As for starting...Double check the timing...have you moved the distibutor as you cranked it. Does the engine try to start at all. Need more details.

Well when the first belt broke it took with it all of the pullys inside the timing compartment so they have been replaced. i cranked for a bit then checked the timing (cam timing) and had to adjust it 1 tooth. the distributor top screw is secure but the bottom one is hard to fasten but it is fairly tight. when cranking, the engine kinda "poofs" very low tone and quiet. (I think its just the compression because i needed to cut the exhaust off where the header meets the rest of the exhaust and havnt welded it yet) my battery was a little discharged at first, so i charged it and its cranking fast now but no start and i can smell gas if i stick my head under the hood after excessive cranking.....anything else you need to know just let me know thanks....johnny

It is very hard to help over the net, but I will help where I can. I don't want to second guess what you have done.... I will just help you trouble shoot. With the engine at Top dead center..your cam timing you have adjusted one tooth and now it seems dead on. Did you take the distibutor cap off and see if the rotor button is pointing at #1 plug wire? It could be the disributor timing that is off. By now the engine is flooded bad and is not helping. I will admit straight out I know jack about the feul system on these cars. It sounds like a timing problem to me though, with the low toned puffs. Let me know, I'll check back later.

well ive narrowed it down to what I believe is flooding so I'm going to pull the plugs and replace them and hope for the best. The timing is right on and i thing when I tested the injectors i maybe hooked them up right or when i adjusted the timing it did something.....I dont know well ll i can do is hope and try it. ps...to anyone who has driven the 924S, since ive never driven this car, unbiased, how does it compare to my old 88 honda accord...and how does it compare overall, (not to a 911, but something in its class), cheers....johnny

I know that you mentioned it but that is exactly the prob we had with our 85 944 and it was simply flooded. hope you have better luck this time. The funny thing is when something like this happens to me i always look at it like i missed something and the car is giving me that one last chance to fix it before i brake more stuff...

The 924S is certainly faster (and more powerful) than an 88 Accord. 0-60 mph in about 7.5 secs and 15.7 secs in the 1/4 mile.
