|
|
This morn on the way to work I smelled antifreeze.
A minute later a hissing leak stated from behind my dash.
A minute after that a teakettle.
I pulled over and got some water( I did not overheat)
It seemed to be okay (my little teapot was okay)
Then
Bang!!! And the teapot turned into a geyser filling the car with steam.
I could not even see the steering wheel!!
I was running with hazards so I pulled off to the Parkway shoulder.
I had to laugh as the steam poured out of the windows.
Everyone driving by was probably saying
(Serves you right Porsche boy!!!)
We have to put up with a little pie on the face sometimes.
I bypassed the heater on the road and went to work. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

pulled into the major hangout up on the dragons tail (Hwy 129) after making my run, parked behind a couple of the new Honda 2000's.
Came out & the car wouldn't start.
Just happens I parked on enough of a hill to roll it off without a push.
Got that same sort of feeling!
Had to laugh about it, but only when safely on the way home. |

I had something like that happen while driving my J10 Jeep.
Luckily it was summer so I had the window down on the drivers side.
A heater hose let go right near the fresh air fan inlet. Of course with the window down I had a negative pressure in the cab and it pulled all the mist and steam into the cab. I was doing about 70 and thought what the hell did I blow, till I smelled the coolant. I stuck my head out the drivers window so I could see , got the thing pulled over to the side of the expressway. Traffic was passin me by.
Must have looked like an episode out of cheech and chong. I hoped out as I was gagging on the coolant and turned and looked and the cab was pretty well ingulfed still.
Popped the hood and saw the hole in the line next to the fitting. Coolant cooled pretty quickly and I had my gerber with me and cut the hose back and reinstalled, tighten the clamp and went my merry way to the house. With coolant all over the windsheild and my cloths stinkin.
Good times with that truck, the floor board was rotted out and I would stick several layers of carpet over the holes to keep the cold air from blowing in during the winter. It always sucked though as the carpet would get wet and fog up the inside of the truck. _________________ Bob Dodd - 924turbo@cox.net
