Hello ALL!

I am in research mode for dropping a TDI in my 82 924 turbo.
The audi 016 tranny will handle the torque, its the gear ratios i'm worried about.
lining up the engine - transmission is a concern.
As for power...
I've been reading on the tdi forums - people making 200+ HP with the 1.9 TDI. 250+ with the euro 16 valve, and not sacrificing mpgs. So basically you get BETTER than 50 mpg and the power of the GT with more torque, sounds fun to me...
the jetta weight is 3400 lb. 924 turbo is 2300 lb. = better mpg right there.
I'm still looking for my donor car, when i really get going - i'll be posting alot.

Hello !

A Diesel in a Porsche...
Such a shame

See ya!

Well, you can call me sceptic, but 924 is not a real porsche - its vw/audi creation. So why not use vw/audi engine if it's possible and gives you very big advantage over std ones. Visit www.vwdiesel.net - it's a huge info site with very good specialists in forum. There are plenty of guys making 160-170 whp out of 1.6 vw td - not so bad, considering weight of a car and the engine, especialy when this costs close to nothing comparing to tuning of porsche engines. AND they make 6-7 l/100km with normal driving...
If you want a bolt on engine - take Audi 2l td (5cyl) - its the same engine as 1.6, but has one "additional" cyl. 200 whp is posiible out of it. One more possible transplant - 2.4l vw LT or audi engine (used in old volvos as well) - the same as well, but with one more additional cyl (i6).
The main stuff you'll have to modify - fuel pump tuning and turbo pressure. That's it;).
Best wishes and good luck with diesel projects. 924 td is second in a row for my projects;)

I would have thought bar changing the filler neck the swap would be as easy as any engine change. Problem is you would have to change the gear ratios to cope with the slower turning engine.

Looks like an awesome project above.

An engine people are forgetting about in the states that could be fit into a 924 is the 2.0 inline 5 diesel found in the Audi 5000 Diesel (NA) and the Audi 5000 Turbo diesel I think 1980-83. The block is based off the standard audi gas 5 cylinder engines which we already know fit the 924 bell housing.

Another VAG diesel that is available in the USA & bolts to the 924 BH is the Audi/Volvo D24T, the turbo inline 6 2.4L version of the 2.0L 5cylinder. It was optional in 83-86 volvo 740/760 cars.

In another thread, member Horizonblue has installed the gas version of the inline 6 into his 924.
