Yeah, there was a series on TV here, they covered a few different cars that were considered "modern classics"... Basic idea on each one is that they have a budget of £1000 to buy a car, do it up and then sell it (hopefully) at a profit. The 924 one was really enjoyable to watch and the car looked pristine at the end compared to how they first got it - amazing what a good polish and a few small repairs does. Car they bought was an n/a, 1980 model i think, oxidized paint, dents etc just in need of some love.
Guy (Mike Brewer) was really into the 924 mind, commented on the ear to ear grin they generate (made me laugh, i know that one so well!).. nice to hear a lot of praise being given to the car, I don't recall him faulting the 924's even once.
Others were an old Austin Mini, Saab 900 Turbo and a Ford Capri. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

I should have taped the show, coulda have rattled off a copy and posted it out, though it would be in PAL format.
I'll keep an eye out in case it's ever on again. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

OK, cheers 5150. Glad to hear it's worth a watch, buying it sight-unseen and all...
You don't see too many stories on the 924 so I thought I'd best grab a copy while I had the chance
I can send you a copy, if you'd like?
Anyone who wants a copy, just PM me with postal details... but wait until I post back here saying it's arrived. Thanks. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I think you'll enjoy it Khal, it's not like the kinda of motoring show where they give reviews and opinions on the cars with a load of pointless banter...
They don't do a huge amount of work on the car, but it makes a good point of how a few things can make a car look real bad and how a little effort can make a hell of a difference.
We replaced our daily driver/commuter a few months back, crappy little hatchback family car.. When i went to view it was looking good but a little neglected - one owner and it was an old couple, low mileage, garage service history but it had been parked outside and the paintwork was fairly milky. It also had a bust door mirror and a cracked rear light cluster plus a few scratches that were noticable. I felt a little guilty about tearing the guy's price down since I knew it would clean up fine, but hell he couldn't be bothered to even polish it! Breakers yard for the mirror and light cluster, little touch up paint and then a damned good polish with colour restorer and autoglym polish.. the change was pretty amazing in just an hour or so effort _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

OK, got the DVD! You're right 5150, it's excellent!
Within minutes I was grinning and chuckling along! The presenter really likes 924's, it's a classic moment when he first takes it for a spin -he just can't stop grinning And the work they do Simple, but produces a stunning result
A warning for our U.S. members... it's a British program, which means they speak English, so you may not be able to understand it
(Especially when they spend a few "quid" on parts and go to work under the "bonnet" with "spanners" )
Anyways, I ripped it down to VCD. I'll send it out in this format for whoever wants it. It will work on most DVD players (I've tested it on two of mine already) but I offer no guarantee. If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll give you the MPEG file -that'll player in MediaPlayer and the like. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
