FYI, on the subject of fixing or covering up the dash without an outright (and expensive) replacement, I recently got one of the hard plastic dash covers from Tweeks - this is the ABS plastic moulded one that's about $80.

I was very impressed. It's designed to be installed without removing the dash. Goes on quite easily. Aesthetically looks very nice, they even matched the pattern of the vinyl graining to make it look right. I have been very happy with it.

Only drawback has been that I still have a few ends I have to pin down and get to adhere better, but haven't got around to them yet.

Anyway, I'd highly recommend it presonally to anyone looking for dash repair options.

I had a Dash cover installed on my 80' 931 and I am very satisfied by the way it looks. I did not install mine myself, because the dash had really bad cracks and in some spots the cracks were 2 inches high, so, the dash surface needed to be cut and sanded down, I wanted it right, so I had it professionally insatalled by a upholstery shop, but I bought the cover from:
http://www.coverlaymfg.com/E_Store/Dash_Covers/Foreign/Porsche/

If you get it from them is only $88.58 including shipping, it comes with instructions, adhesive and everything else needed, but tools.

It is the same product you get from tweeks or performanceproducts.com, but a bit cheaper.
