If the fuel pump was drawing too many amps, would that cause the fuel pump relay to burn out fequently? Also would it cause the fuel pump fuse to get burn marks on the tips of the fuse ends. There is a 20amp fuse in the fuel pump fuse slot (and I dont know the correct size) & the pump is only supposed to draw around 8.5 amps. I am thinking a faulty fuel pump drawing too many amps may be causing my problems (9 months in the works)....Chris

If your fuel pump fuse keeps blowing, chances are your fuel pump is not working correctly poss due to age.

I too kept blowing fuses at an alarming rate even after all electrical system was checked. Got a new Bosch fuel pump fitted (external, mines an '80 with 2 pumps) and hey presto no more problems infact at high revs I used to have a missfire even after changing distributor plugs HT leads but after new pump was fitted it went away, must have been starvation or something.

BTW I do have a spare internal fuel pump that i removed from mine when it wouldn't stay running (turned out to be fuel pump relay) there my original internal pump works OK.

Actually, according to the manual, it should be a 25A fuse for the fuel pump as fuse #2 on the aux fuse board.

However, it has been mentioned previously (obviously I should add it to the FAQ!) that if you have a 924 fuel pump relay instead of a 931 fuel pump relay in there (easy to swap the wrong one in, and the right one is expensive, so it's financially motivating too) the relay itself will keep blowing.

Since you've mentioned that the relay itself is blowing, bite the bullet and make sure you're buying the correct one.

The Porsche part # is 931 615 113 00, I just replaced mine and it says right on it very clearly that it's rated for 16A, and has a # 896481 on the top for the manufacturer's part #.
