Do these bolt in or is there some modifying that needs to be done? I'm getting one for free. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "S"

Lizard is correct, on a 931, the 951 exhaust will bolt right up. Infact replacement 931 and 951 exhausts are the same part from aftermarket suppliers.
As far as trying to put the 931/951 exhaust on a 924, lots of work to do, as well as some fabrication and welding.
Depending on what year 924 you would be trying to install the 931/951 exhaust on, let's start with exhaust hangers. The exhaust hangers are different between the late 924 and early 924. If you have a late 924, you already have some of the exhaust hangers that you need. If you have an early 924 (round muffler), you will need to buy new hangers for the rear muffler at the least.
The 931/951 final muffler terminates in a different location than the 924, and the flanges on the 924 are 3-bolt, while the 931/951 are 4-bolt. The tubing is for the 931/951 is about 2.5" while the 924 is about 2" so you would have to cut off the 931/951 flange, and custom make a pipe with the 3-bolt 924 cat flange that expands up to the diameter of the 931/951 tubing. |

Well you want to see how it looks. Go to my site. I have a 944 turbo muffler on my 1982. It is a bit loud even with a cherry bomb (sp?) muffler in front of it. I had a large resonator there but it cooked itself or some thing. Anyway it definately flows well.
Also there is one other thing you can do depending on your hangers. Get the late model 924 hanger at the rear. The one that has an aluminum member that bolts to the transmission. On that there is a strap mount. It has two rubber isolators on it. Take that piece off the aluminum member. The strap mount and the isolators.
Next create the muffler pipe that will go from your current exhaust to the 944 turbo or 944 exhaust. So then you can adjust the length to get it right. You want it to put the rear of the muffler right behind but not touching the area behind the rear bumper mount. There is a thin section of metal there that you can drill through and mount the strap mount with isolators. Then you simply use the strap from the late style 924 muffler mount to strap your muffler to the new mounting.
I did this on my 1980 924 and it worked real slick. When I get a chance I will take some photos of it. It is using a 944 free flow exhaust.
It is still for sale... the 1980 924 that is.
