Yeah, I'd say either go PCA or Club Rally. Depends on what you want to do. PCA would be good for road-racing in an environment with a mild level of competitiveness (not cutthroat like SCCA IT is), and you can modify the car as much as you like if you want, just pick the class you wish to race in. There are a few that run in both SCCA and PCA at the GT level - the rules conflicts are nowhere near as bad there. Of course, you still have the turbo problem, but it's no problem in PCA - too many Porsche turbos for that to be a problem!
As for how the crowd is, there's a whole lot of "more money than brains" floating around the paddock, IMO, but if you just make sure not to buy into it, you'll be find - any good racer knows, you can get a lot further with preparation, practice, and preparation than with the latest trick part of the week. If you focus on having a reliable car that's tuned properly and focus on learning how to drive it (rather than trying to win races on your first out), you'll have a lot of fun and still beat faster cars with slower drivers.
Club Rally is extremely difficult on the cars - as hard as road racing is, it's far worse. Not to say that you shouldn't do it - just plan to have a seriously well-sorted and reliable car, with plenty of spares, and very good in-depth knowledge of the car and how to fix it.

Body Shop Rob came over last night and we talked about the car for hours. The decision is: Srip it and race! Rob has collected info on rallying, autocrossing and some racing and hillclimbs. We are going to lighten the car like the one he has on your website under projects. This turbo will fly.

The rest of the interior was gutted today. Car has not been started since 18 Oct. and with a fresh battery it kicked over and stayed running. Took about a second. BodyShopRob dropped off one of the racing buckets and removed the front fender to test fit the Audi bumper. You think it looks good on his 77 NA , wait till you see it on a turbo! We will be installing the new front fenders on Friday (18 Jan 02). Will update my website and keep all you posted.
