Parents are making me get rid of my 924 project car before I goto school so I've arranged to get it stored at a friends house. I'm wondering if there is anything I should do to it before I let it sit for 8 months.
Thanks |

Ask your friend if he can run it like once a week for about half an hour. Take the tires off and put the car on jack stands so you dont get flat spots on the tires. Thats all I know you should do

running is gonna be a problem since he is going to school as well, I am only using part of his driveway where his family doesn't use. As for the tires they are old ones that are cracked so I don't care if they get flat spots.
Thanks though |

| storage issues are probably location specific, water dripping off of trees and roof, leaves and birds. you should probably change oil, flush cooling system and replace antifreeze.clean the car of dirt in wheel wells and leaves near the air conditioning intake under the hood.dirt and leaves will stay wet and cause mold and rust problems. give plenty of room for other cars that might park near your car,8 months of car doors hitting your car could tear up paint or worse. check you sunroof for leaks and fix or your car will smell like mold when you get back. im not sure which is better near empty gas tank or full,if gas goes bad near empty is better less gas to drain.maybe consider opening one of the body drains in the passenger compartment floor(under carpet) so moisture does not build up.hope this helps |

| if you open a floor board drain hole you should put a screen or something over the hole to keep the mice, rats squirels etc out. |

Other issues when sitting outside for 8 months with no motion are the brakes and clutch. I guess it depends on the climate. Damp or dry. It no one can move the car I suggest that you spray some WD40 on the brake rotors and then move the car a few feet and coat them again. This will keep the rotors from rusting all up. Also will keep the pads from sticking to the rotors. Then you will just need some brake parts cleaner to wash it off when you want to drive it.
If you can avoid putting the emergency/parking brake on due so. Put wheel blocks to keep the car in place. Don't want the brake caliper to sieze in the on position.
Definately change oil, and coolant, clean drains and make sure the rear hatch and sun roof seals are good. There are pest deterants that you can purchase to place under your hood. I suggest you get one. Mice and squirels can make a mess of your engine and wires. Make some calls and find out. I think one of the products is wolf fur in a bad that gives off a sent that keeps the mice and such away.
GOOD LUCK IN SCHOOL

Ooops forgot. Disconnect and remove the battery. Better to not have the acid leaking onto the battery box. You can inspect the box at that time. If there are any issues make sure you address them before you go off for 8 months.... or you will have a nice musty, moldy interior and maybe a rusted floor when you get back.

| as far as rodents go, the forestry guy told me to put moth balls in a zip lock bag with holes slit through the bag to run my snake off. and it also works for squirels and mice, even though it says right on the box not to use them for that purpose. |

| haven't read all the responses but if not already mentioned, put a cover on it, a plastic cover or two tarps. sun fade, bird poop, scratching...it will protect car. |
