Seeing as though I have recently bought a '71 2.2 911T and I have a '82 924, I can answer all this.

The 924 is a Porsche - its just different to a 911. The 924 is a lot easier to drive quickly and less frustrating in traffic. Although both are rated at 125 hp, the 911 is quicker. The 924 is quieter and more relaxing to drive. The 924 is cheaper to maintain and parts are easier to find.

The 924 is an affordable Porsche, but there's nothing like driving a 911 with all the whirring noises, wind noise and hot oil smells.

The 924 site is a squillion times better than the 911T board and 924 owners don't start a sentence with, "my car cost more than yours."

I never know which car to use when I wake up!

Cheers

Steve in Sunny South Africa

exc911ence, johnnycat, I have ran into the same issue with the VIC "Porsche Dealer" They seem to be very unknowledgeable and "snobby" Oh well, what can you do... :/

I live on vancouver island as well(moving to nanaimo in the next couple weeks) and am also a member of the PCA club. Ive only been to one meet (club race at western speedway) and found everybody to be nice. I brought my purple 1978 924 and cought some eyes. All in all, I have not really experinced the "real" porsche issue. once I had someone once say that its not a porsche, and that its a VW. Now in his ignorance, he is technically right. but non the less, its never been an issue. most people ask what I drive and I love to reply porsche 924, and they usually come back with "PORSCHE?!?!" thats the best.

we should get together and go for a cruz and a beer some time this spring/summer, you guys game?

I think that a mini-list get together of Vancouver Island members would be a great idea. Of course, I have to get the car over to the island first! [It's presently sitting in a garage in Lethbridge, AB] It'll be here by spring though so we should put something together if people are interested.
