If all the rods have a common crankshaft it is actually a V6, not the normal 80 or 90 degree V6 we are used to looking at. BTW Buick made an aluminum V8 back in the early 60's that was 60 degree and looked closer to this.

Not to be a contrarian or anything, but...
I doubt the buick v-8 looked like this. The vr-6 is only 15 degrees. |

Rico,
In 62 a small 60 degree V8 in a massive (before pollution control) engine compartment DID look similar. Also, Buick always made their heads and tappet covers to set vertical which added to the effect.
Guess the object (to save space) was the same. It did make for a rough idling engine since most of the counter balance was gone.

Okay, Dennis. I'll buy that about the relative size compared to the boat/sled-like cars of the time. Are you sure it is 60 and not 90 degrees though? I always thought the BOP 215 ci was 90 degrees.
Cool engines, none the less. Just ahead of their time. No demand for fuel efficiency back then. |

Rico,
The V6 (cast iron) they came out with was 90 but I thought the V8 (aluminum) was 60. Course, I have been wrong before and the CRS comes along more frequently when you get my age. 8^)BTW British Leyland bought both the V6 and V8 and changed things for the better on both. Buick bought the rights to the V6 back in the 70's and sold it as the 231ci (3.8L).
