Hey Gang.
I received my 944 spoler, now its time to drill my car.
Is it best to install the side strips first, then the rear so the curve of the strips lines up right. Or should I install the rear first.
Also The side pieces have studs instead of screws. Whats a good way of marking the hole locations in the trim?
Any other pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks

Upon inspection I made this observation. If I only drill through the edge of the trim, missing the glass and attach the rear section of the spoiler with screws, then the mounting points would no longer be 'sandwiching' the trim and glass. This would put all the force on the trim only. This might cause the trim to lever away from the glass. Sence I cant drill the glass, how about using silicon to glue the spoiler to the glass and trim along with screws??
Any thoughts??

You can take it to Apple Auto Glass. They have glues and silicones there that are made for the job.
I have a 944 rear window and spoiler if you run into trouble...I think the wiper assembly still works too. Cheap!
Good luck!

Did you silicone it right to the glass? I will be doing this job soon and I could use the info.

I'll post some pics today. I will have to use a cheap camera, but you will get the idea.
I bought some stainless steel 10 * 24 screws 3/4 inch long. You need a small head to fit in the lip of the trim. I drilled several holes in the trim at the edge, marked the spoiler, then drilled and tapped the spoiler. You wont be able to attach screws at the outer edges of the rear section, silicon will hold it fine. I ran a bead of silicon on the spoiler where it touches the glass, right in front of the trim and a blob on the screw locations at the ends. Screwed the spoiler on and used duct tape to hold the ends down until the silicon dried. The next day I attached the side pieces. The side pieces have studs, so start at the rear, use the stud to scratch a mark, then drill. Dont marke them all at one, do one at a time, working rear to front. The holes have to be dead center in the lip. ON some I had to drill a counter sink from the inside so the little round nut would fit. Use silicon at the rear cuz there is no stud there. I also put a dab of silicon to join the side pieces with the rear section. Take your time. It also helps if you grind a slot in a screw driver to make a 'split tool' for the nuts.

Good lookin' car! I think that spoiler just really sets off the rear end perfectly.
Have you replaced your carpet or is that original? I'm looking to replace mine, which is dark brown, with the same color as yours. Looks good. |
