My cold idle speed is around 200 RPM, and it often stalls when coming back down after I rev the engine. It runs fine once the engine has warmed up, though. I think the problem is the auxilary air regulator. I put it in the freezer for a couple hours, but it only opened up about 1/8th of the way. Should I replace this part, or should I look for something else first?

The car is a 1977 924 US version, if it makes any difference.

sounds like it's the problem

If giving the car gas helps, that's what the aux air valve does exactly.

Yeah, giving it gas does fix it. At first I just adjusted the idle speed screw so it ran properly when cold, but then once the engine warmed up it would idle at like 1500 RPM.

Exactly...definately sounds like the aux air valve. If you decide to buy a new one, let me know, i can get stuff wholesale.

I've got a used one too, I might keep it as a spare though are you looking for new or used do ya think?

I was just about to call a porsche dealership to see how much it would cost there. I think I want a new one, as long as it's not too expensive. How much would it cost from the wholesaler?

Scratch that. I think I may have figured out how to adjust the one I currently have so it is open at the right temperature.

I circled it on this photo. It's right below where those three big rubber hoses join together.

I had no idea either 924kid! "Damnit Jim I'm a doctor not a mechanic."
By the way, d12-Matt has now adjusted/fixed the idle rpm.

There is a little bolt that can slide a bit when you loosen the nut. Moving it away from the center makes the hole open more. Also the bi-metallic strip is connected directly to the plastic electrical plug, so if that plastic part isn't flush with the metal then the hole probably won't open all the way. I just wrapped some thread in the groove to make it fit better. Plus, there was some grit inside that was preventing the piece from rotating freely, so I ground the rivets and took everything apart to clean it.
