I think mine is falling apart inside because it just cleared a blockage and it seems to run and sound better
Is it worth the trouble and what should I expect afterwards?
Does it have asbestos in it?
Thanks _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

Its easy to do, just unbolt it and use a long screw driver.
Be sure to use at least a face mask, you don't want to breath in any of it
Put it in a kitchen trash bag, pull one end of the cat to the top of the bag, seal it with one hand, use the screwdriver in the other. |

Call a muffler shop and have them make a replacement pipe. Tell them its for a track car and give them the measurements. They can expand the pipe on both ends and/or weld in flanges.
Mine cost $50.00 and they did a fine job.
Gutting the cat is a power beneficial move, I just worried that I wouldn't get all the crap out or something _________________ 86 924S + 86 944T = one big smile
There is no quick fix or cheap power, not in the Porsche world so learn to drive your car. |

| A bypass pipe is ok if your state does not do a visual inspection of your exhaust system during emissions testing. |

I've gutted quite a few. Take the unit off and, with a long steel 'spike' and hammer, bust all the coated 'ceramic' stuff into a bag. Do not ingest, etc. Not difficult at all and big brother thinks you're legit. Actually, I think my cars would pass any clean air test without because they're always in tune.

Actually you should not, one thing is it's not a very friendly thing to do to a cat, the other is that a gutless cat is not that good in catching the mouse. |

I found this on a web site that upgraded a 924 na-
To handle the exhaust, a EuroCar anit-reversary header was used. Experience has shown this to be the best header for the 924 to date, although it is no longer available. A Borla free-flow stainless steel exhaust, complete with that tiny catalytic converter, carries the hot gasses to the rear of the car. (Funny isn’t it, how tiny and bad for performance the early converters were for the U.S. market, but when German law started encouraging converters, Porsche came up with systems that offer no loss in performance!)
I'm killing my cat this weekend I hope, At least gutting it :) _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.
