I was just returning from a birthday round of golf, was on the on ramp to the freeway, and had wound my 931 out in second, and hit third, when I got a loud boom, and all kinds of shit appeared in my review mirrow. I looked at the boost guage, and it showed "0".

That's what happens when a turbocharger freezes under full throttle acceleration. I limped home (talk about no power without a turbo) and could see the paper gasket sticking out between the compressor and the center section. Car smokes like hell.

Anybody know of a good price on a rebuilt turbo for an '80? I will put a post on the parts thread.

This is a complete guess on my part. I have no experience with turbos. When the turbo exploded the oil seals went and you are dumping it into the intake. That would cause lots of blueish smoke out of the tail pipe. when the turbo exploded lots of little metal peices flew everywhere. I think the exhaust side is eaisly cleaned, but I hope you didnt suck to much crap into the intake. Just a guess though.

Did it freeze up or did it come apart? I've seen several turbos that broke the shaft connecting the exhaust turbine to the intake impeller. I haven't seen one yet that justed siezed but I've only seen a few that had failed.

There are some good things about the Porsche name. Unlike a Honda. The porsche name does just the oppsite. It means a succseful responsible indvidula. Pepole igrnonce of the cars vlaue is a helping factor. The fact the his porsche is modifed like it is show an even more succseful indvidula the is a consuire of Porsche not just an owner. The Porshce name will help in this instance more than hinder. Unless Joe has 10 tickets or somthing.
