HOW THE HECK DOES THE CENTER BOLT ON THE CRANKSHAFT COME OFF!! DOES IT COME OFF CLOCKWISE BY ANY CHANCE??? PLEASE HELP.

I've moved this to a more appropriate forum.

There's nothing special about that bolt, it just that it sometimes needs lots leverage to get moving.

You also seem to have a problem with the caps lock on your keyboard.

in some applications you need to use an impact gun on that bolt in order to keep the engine from turning...if this is not the case then lots of leverage is whats needed. it is a standard thread. hope this helps. cheers....johnny

Put a screwdriver through the hole at the top so that when you unscrew the bolt, the screwdriver will hold the flywheel from moving.

When I was stupid I placed a breaker bar on the ground and then cranked the car. However I would never try this again in my life... It worked, but the breaker bar decided to go for a light afterwards. To defend myself this was over 7 years ago. Now I would just use an impact, if that still does not work then cut the head of the bolt in half to relief the pressure and then it will come right off.

how about just putting the car in gear and locking the parking brake. that should keep the motor from spinning while you torque it off. unless you giving it more torque than your clutch can hold?

I tried that once, but I ran myself over... After that I replaced my rear brake pads.

You stick a normal sized ratchet in there, with a magnet in the socket to hold it on. Start the car up...purr her over to a street with a speed bump on it, slowly drive the car toward the bump. Jam on the brakes when the ratchet starts smacking the speed bump and making noises. Let a few sparks whirl out so the neighbors can see that you're working on a porsche, not a car. Find a nice height in the speed bump, you may use the handbrake, so that ratchet is now stuck and the pulley has flown off somewhere.

These ideas you guys are giving are the funniest things I have heard, my &od.

What you do is you go to a rental place, rent an air compressor, get the biggest one you can get for 110 volts, for your convenience. You don't want to get a small piddly one, or a huge one that requires 220 volts. Then also an industrial grade impact wrench will be needed. You don't even have to jam the flywheel, you might have to hold it lightly with a pry bar, don't use the teeth. If you need to put bolts in and hold it that way.
