Pelican used to have some wiring diagrams online, but I think not all years, and they may not still be there. I have actual hardcopy original manuals... but a digital scan is a lot easier to enlarge!
That 'Denso box won't be needed for airflow... likewise the larger box under the battery tray doesn't do much without functional AC except to add a better air fan than stock. That said, removing it will open up some air paths that would want to be rerouted to close things off properly - otherwise you'll end up with air blowing loose under the dash, of course, instead of cooling or defrosting.
One important note, however, in the removal process... the AC wiring ties in to the control wiring for the rad fans, and those two relays up there are part of the equation. So you can't safely just remove those without some corrective wiring. One part of this was to force both fans on when you switch on the AC blower fan (which is convenient when you want to prevent the car from overheating... even if the AC system is otherwise dead)...
So for now best to leave those relays in place, and some testing would be wise to ensure both fans are able to come on when the rad temp switch is shorted (to simulate on)...
The "true" '82s seem to be the ones with the squirrel cage (modern style) fresh air fan at the base of the windshield, vs. the old propeller style. Dec '81 would definitely be on the fence... mine, for comparison, is a May 81 car... |
Good to know!! Thanks Vaughan!!! I am starting to attack with the label maker everything going on back there
I found Vol 4 of the porsche workshop manual which has all the electrical stuff in it, but there is not a diagram for the windows, and after some further digging it looks like the aftermarket voltmeter got tied into the window relay somehow https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dtG1AnPVdAcuw3I-jKsQVJzjmcT5a3n1/view?usp=sharing
Any chance you know where I can locate the window diagrams? _________________ Just trying my best to figure this out without total failure

Power window diagram is page 97-21 of Vol 4 - might yours not be complete? It's before the MY78 diagrams.
Do you have the hardcopy or a scan? I think the scan is missing a lot of those pages... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I have a scan, working on saving for a hardcopy because those are dumb expensive
for the wiring section I have:
Central relay/fuse plate remove and install 97-5
CIS wire harness, remove and install 97-6
Current flow diagrams for 80,81,82 97-57 my 82 sections contain Part 1 through VI (start power supply ignition fuel pumps, O2 sensor system fresh air blower cooling fan, light switch concealing headlight foglights headlight parking light rear light, brake light emergency flasher turn signal backup light horn interior light, ignition starter switch rear window defogger cluster illumination brake circuit control instrument cluster, instrument center console windshield wiper)
Extra wire harness for AC 97-55
Extra wiring diagram for AC 97-7
ground points on car 97-8a
removal plug tool 97-7
and wiring diagram symbols and explanations
sorry thats a lot of reading and words, but now I'm questioning if this is complete or not because I thought it was but sounds like it is probably not. yippee _________________ Just trying my best to figure this out without total failure

Yeah, it wasn't till I looked because of your question that I realized those were missing... drop me your email on PM, I can send a photo... maybe also the AC diagram... and if I ever get off my duff and get access to my website again I should properly scan and upload them... bigger fish to fry... _________________ Vaughan Scott
