If it was the wrong wire then I think the starter would be trying to come on as soon as you put the ignition to live because that wire would be connected directly to the coil - and thus battery positive.
My 924 starter "stopped working" recently but it actually turned out to be the engine earth strap not working - I diagnosed that with a jumper cable from engine metal to battery negative. |

@Raize
Well, problem solved. I think I created it myself originally.
924RACR....... I tried the hot wire thing and got nothing. Started checking wiring and such.
Continuing with the comment from Raize......
I had loosened the ground strap at the firewall to help with the WUR removal. Probably what caused my original problem!
Tightened the strap back and still no starter.
As I had the 50/50 chance on the two wires I changed to the other wire and bingo....... starter operation. Before I attempted the challenge of installing the starter I left it hanging and used jumper cables to connect the starter housing to ground.
Thanks for the help and now on to rebuilding the WUR and fuel distribution head..... Wish me luck. |

Progress is still progress, no matter how embarrassing it might be! It's still a cheap fix! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yep definitely progress! I'm saving the good part of installing the heat shields until the wounds on my hand heal up......
Got the WUR rebuilt yesterday and started on the fuel distributor. I kind of relate it to building a watch. Tolerances! I found moisture inside and some evidence of rust. Looks like the 4 small filters are clogged. I was doing great right up until I sprayed brake cleaner directly in my eye. |
