Hi everybody,
I am currently restoring a 1967 SWB 912, while cutting the floor around the tunnel I managed to cut the wire loom. I know, I know what is AMAZING...
Anyway, now I'm getting ready to install new floor panels, but I'm being stymied by the need to fix the wire loom. After careful consideration and the enormous cost of a new loom. I decided to redo the central 1.2m of the loom. I have traced all the wires and Now my question is has anyone done this type of repair and can you help clarify the types of wires multi core, single core, 5amp, 8amp, 12amp, 17amp different to use? I appreciate this is an important question...but I'm out of ideas at this point.
Any help would be appreciated before the inevitable call to an auto electrician. |

There are companies that make the entire wire loom for 356s, 911s and 912s but the cost is rather high unless there is no choice. In your case, each of the wires in the loom is color coded and with some skill, you can match them for a repair. Since there is no additional slack in the loom, your best bet is to splice in several inches of new wire for each splice.
If you are unsure of what each wire is, you can download color wiring diagrams from the internet for the type/year of the car that you have.
Not an insurmountable problem, just a bit of a pain. The good news is that a restored short wheelbase 912 is worth about 10 times what an NA 924 is worth. BTW, I restore the engines for the early Porsches - see my avatar _________________ 1979 924 NA race car
