Hi folks - simple question really.. is this normal??
on removing the oil pressure relief valve the casting between the channel the valve sits in and the oil channel is a mess, is this just manufacturing or has something happened to cause this, if so i just cant imagine what?

Mine did not look like that, not what i can remember. Whatever you do buy a new spring, my relief valve had lost a bit of tension when i compared it to a new one, its super cheap aswell. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

I don't remember this exactly, but it doesn't seem right to me... would want a solid confirmation on that... seems very very strange to have that kind of surface without error...
Maybe when I get back home end of the week I can peek at a spare, see what that looks like... _________________ Vaughan Scott

its weird isnt it!! i cant work it out.. im assuming for the correct operation of the pump there needs to be a opening there..but why so crude?
im rebuilding the engine as we speak but as yet havent found any nasty metal filings anywhere.. |

Probably a quality issue with one of the drilling operations. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

thanks guys, i think the impression im gettign from here and also the facebook group is that its prob not actually an issue and as long as the passageway is there to allow oil to move freely then it can go back on the car...i think i'll just tidy it up with the dremel and carry on with the rebuild. |

Sorry, didn't manage to put hands on one yesterday; juggling things in a storage unit and it was very cold, only 15F... will be back today, try again, will warm up a bit more into the 20s... and I'll be piling on another layer! _________________ Vaughan Scott

thanks for this, that helpful...i think mine isnt too bad and im leaning towards just assuming its a manufacturing issue, ive cleaned it up today with the dremel and the pressure valve seats fine ill just keep an eye on it |
