Why do you think the oil pump gear failed? |

Hard to say. The harmonic balance failed as well...which I think came first. Also the fast that these parts are pushing 30 years old. There is a guy making billet gears as drop-in replacements.

I think the "parts are old" is not really a good explanation. All these things are protected by oil film so really it's either a degradation in the oil quality or a thermal expansion due to overheating that messed up the tolerances?
Just practicing my engineering here, not being prescriptive!

If the harmonic balancer went first it could be an explenation. Torsional harmonics can be really brutal, especially on gears. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
