Definitely a good thread to have handy, thanks for mentioning it.

I MAY...fingers crossed...not have to remove the turbo after all. I was able to get a bolt to thread where the missing stud is and tighten it all the way down. I think it might have been slightly too long though, so before I try to see if it actually stopped the leak, I need to make sure it's actually clamping the fitting and not just bottomed out in the hole. Unfortunately I messed up my back so leaning over the engine at the moment is not something I'm going to do. Which is fine, as I tore the charge tube gasket and had to order a new one.

All of this has apparently been apart before, prior to my ownership. I'm finding that most of the hardware is not corroded and nothing is breaking (so far!) as I pull this stuff apart. That's the good part. The bad part is lots of non-stock fasteners in here and not all of them are staying fastened. I guess if I do end up having to remove it, I can make sure to put it back with the proper parts, if they're available. But I'm definitely hoping I don't have to...

Update: I got a bolt that fit and tightened it down....it goes all the way so the stud didn't break off at least. Anyway, I started the car, and I don't see it leaking, although I'm getting a good bit of smoke from the area. PROBABLY oil burning off from before. It looks like maybe I've escaped the turbo removal for now. However, the car is running really poorly. Idle is jumpy and it wants to die, although it seems to rev OK. I tore the gasket between upper and lower charge tubes, so I replaced that but no change really. I don't see what else I could have impacted, but it must be something. When I discovered the oil leak originally, the car was running great.

yeah, lot's of smoke after working on the engine haha.
Regarding "it worked and does not work now" - my WUR had his moods. I checked the pressures and these were out of spec once in a time and then all good. I disassembled it, checked, assembled and the feature of the WUR disappeared. At least for some time, or for ever

Good you did not have to remove the turbo. It's really a headache.
