I did a little more exploration, and found that the piston (shown on the left in a picture I downloaded from the Pelican Parts forum) is stuck inside the FD. It will slide back and forth, but it makes a pinging noise as it catches on something when I try to slide it out. This is consistent with what was happening during testing. When I pushed the throttle open, it would make a loud ping in the FD and the engine would flood and die. So it clearly seems related to my high fuel pressure issue. I have another FD that is in better condition that I'm planning to rebuild, but I have no piston for it and it seems like no one sells this component. So I guess I'm going to have to fish it out without damaging it. Somehow.
