Literally haven't touched the 924 since i took the aluminium TB inlet charge tube off to design a 3D printed one....this must be two months now. Having had a low key, low energy period i didn't miss the 924 as much..until i put it back together yesterday and i drove it....and i remembered why i love this car.
Its MOT day today so i had to put it back in one piece. Drove it to work today and will go for MOT after.
When i started it it ran rough and felt like running on only 3 cylinders.
Tought my new-ish WUR is overcompensating for the cold temps...but it turned out to just be a bad spark lead.
I'll replace them all soon. For today i just replaced the bad lead with an used one from a VW #vwparts #vanengine

Anyway, before putting it together last evening i managed to print and do the final design loop for the TB charge tube.
Sealing will be like the 931 S2, o-ring. There will be a bracket holding the tube to the manifold, just like the 931S2.
I plan to add an over-pressure valve or an atmospheric small blow off valve directly on this piece to mitigate an irritating effect that is caused by the delay of closing the recirc valve vs the TB where pressure gets trapped between the SC and the closed TB in 4th and 5th at more than 50% throttle.

Anyway, car drives proper Porsche like.

There is lots to love in this project but one of my personal favorites is how you are pushing the limits of 3D printing in an engine bay. There is lots to think about when using this tech and its neat to watch you succeed

Mike, thank you for the kind words.

Juho, yes, like three other tubes currently in this system.
All (except one) tubes are glass/carbon fiber covered.
Funny part about the tube that is not wrapped is that i only installed it for a quick test and its been holding to boost and high temperatures since this spring.

Cool. What material they are printed from? ive been playing with a idea too of glassfiber or just resin coating 3dprinted parts.

Ive had a big urge to get a 3d printer to print velocity stacks and intakeparts and this is not helping it all

I've used PETG and ASA, planned to use PA12 but so far PETG and ASA seem to do what I want them to.
The kit on my car right now is glass fibre wrapped.
It survived the summer, now for the winter test
Just passed yearly technical inspection today.

I am a big fan of PETG (with and w/o reinforcement) if use temp allows.

Nylon is going to be stinky

I currently keep a couple of printers, both delta printers, i like fast things
I did not spend big on printers as i noticed that from year to year massive improvements are made...so i work with Chinese printers like Anycubic and FLSUN.
PETG is an amazing material indeed, i unly used ASA for the part that goes directly in contact with the supercharger as i found out that ASA has a slightly better glass transition graphic.

Did some improvements here and there..and I'm printing the first functional prototype of the TB tube tomorrow.
Hope to have it wrapped next week.

Can you print me a lower charge tube with the same OD on the bottom but without the inner step restriction?
Like something with the same geometry, To curve and attach to the bracket but designed for an OD connection on the bottom, male bottom rather than a female bottom.. ???

Good for a working pressure of 30psi and spikes above...

This is in my pipeline as you can imagine, there is at least a market of 2 persons interested, since we have the same issue If morghen isnt on it first i will do some measurements and CAD work in a not that distant future. In an optimal world a measurement of the temperature in that area would have been nice, so you now more about what material to chose.
