Thinking about trying some runs without my airbox top to see if it makes a difference with a wide open FD..

The little 2.5" OEM air intake in the bottom box is slightly concerning me that it may be a limitation..

Better be careful though.. Could throw my AFRs way out of whack, or boost to the moon, so I better ease into it..

With airbox..

Little more of a lean area on the bottom today.. Gets up to mid 11s on boost there..

Without airbox... Absolutely no other changes..

Runs about 1.0 AFR leaner with the airbox removed..

Low 12s might be a bit too lean on boost like that.. Won't be doing that anymore...

So.. Removing airbox takes out about 1.0 AFR worth of fuel.. A bit more efficiency?
Feels like it hits a little harder a little sooner.. Maybe..
Boost stays the same.. 5kpa more boost without airbox but I'd consider that margin of error..
Pretty high intake air temps..
Sounds like more turbo..
Not much difference in the seat of the pants really..

Probably shouldn't be doing this all the time..
Can almost watch my gas gauge dropping.. I just burnt like an 1/8th tank of gas in 10 miles..

I better stop this crap and turn it down to like 17-18 psi so it'll last the rest of the summer.. I think this is too much for the turbocharger.. Doesn't really feel like it gets much faster from about 17 to 20 psi.. Probably just pumping heat, and it's pretty hot out..

Maybe because the airbox is restrictive in reference to the rest of the intake tract there is a bit more vacuum between the airbox and the sensor plate the plate lifts higher because of that?
But once you remove the restriction and the vacuum...the plate wont open that much anymore..?
My 2c.

I'm just installing my modded airbox today as well...due to the charger being in the way i also think i created a restriction before the plate and may see a similar effect like you...but no data logging for me

It could also be the flow field that enters the plate that is completely different, and thus the forces acting on the plate. Best way to know is to measure how much pressure you have after the filter. Im planning to do that when i get my car together. To see if its worth to take up some new holes in the air box or not for example.

Put in new plugs.. BR9ES with a 22 gap this time.. Another step colder.. See if they foul.. Seems to run the same..

Old plugs look fine.. No signs of det..

Probably going to bring my fuel up to about 11.5 AFR steady from about 175kpa through the top..
Spring pressure is running at 12.0.. 100kpa in the high 13s..

Vacuumed the car out n stuff..
Some rattle is driving me crazy.. Exhaust or something.. Haven't been able to solve it yet..

Changed trans fluid.. Hypoid GL5..

Beat a vette with a 350SBC from a roll.. Destroyed it actually..

Getting a lot of miles..

Thinking about cutting the whole end out of my lower airbox half where the little intake is..

Accidentally pumped a whole tank of 87 octane regular gas in it just now, noticed just as I stopped pumping.. Oops..
So I dropped it to spring pressure.. Feels pretty lame..

Deciding on either adding some octane booster to it, or pumping it out into my moms car or something... Like 10 gallons, lol..

11.5 should be goods, but to be sure you would have to mesure EGT. Be careful with the low octane now that you are having so much fun with the high boost and getting many miles of fun

I’ve been running cooler NGK BR10IEX (iirc) plugs for some while now.

2 more full tanks of premium 93 through it now..
Seems to get like 5mpg city and 30mpg highway..
Can drive like 50 miles at 70 mph for the same gas it seems to drive 10 miles stopping at places all over..

Rips.. No new problems..
Passes like a boss..

Think I finally fixed my exhaust rattle by putting a shop vac hose to the front of the resonator thing and beating the crap out if it with a hammer..
Stopped rattling..
Either their was some junk floating around in there, or i hit it in just the right spot..
So far..

Prepping for a trip a ways north monday-wednesday..
Rear hatch lock pins came loose a bit and caused a rattle there too..
Fixed..

Still have a slight jingle bells sound at like 2000rpm that sounds like its coming from my v belt pulleys, but is still there when the alt belt is taken off..

Things are pretty good when my main priority has been chasing rattles..

Really loving the car.. Driving it everywhere.. Using it a bit too much like a pickup truck sometimes going out to somewhat remote camping/fishing places..
Lag kinda sucks in sand in the bottom of 2nd.. Wayyy better than the m3 slightly offroad though.. Kinda has decent ground clearance, good approach angles, doesnt scrape on everything..

Also loading it full of tools/jack all the time to go do field jobs and rescue broken things..
The car is actually pretty darn practical..

Got one new door ding from a girl opening my passengers door into my tackle box, and a new scratch above the left rear wheel from my pocket knife clip..
More paint coming off my hood by the naca duct..
Its getting used..

Forget how many miles it had when i got it, but the odo does work, watched it change thousands atleast twice this summer, and is about 77300 right now..
It only ever got real miles this summer and last summer..
Its getting almost ALL of my miles, unless i really need to do something that i really shouldnt do with it..

Premium 93....??? I’d want at least 98 to be called ‘premium’! Only 99 goes into mine to be det resistant. Normal UK 95RoN makes mine knock like an open gate in a storm

Google RON, MON and AKI, its different way of measuring. US 93 is probably around our 98.

93 is the highest at the pumps here..
It's the best one unless you are buying specialty gas..

Yeah, and in the People's Republic of Kalifornia, all you can get is 91 for your smogged car...

100+ is pure race gas around here in the US - though you can get that or better (110 or more!) at the pump too in Metro Detroit. Because Racecar.

Finally found the damn jingle bells noise!!

The old hard line from the #1 runner under the intake manifold to the old recirculating pop off valve in the turbo.. It broke right off its mount and was just floating around in there..

Looks like a lot of work to dig it out of there..
Wired it up tight under the manifold so it can't move and wallah.. No more jungle bell sound!!

Pretty happy about finally finding that..

Almost doesn't sound like a jalopy now.. Much better..

Everything is looking tight.. Might leave for that trip here in a couple hours rather than tomorrow morning, just because why not..

Back is absolutely packed full of stuff including tools, a blow up boat, cooler, tents, lot of crap..
Feels like it's down on power but I'm sure it's just the weight..

One positive thing I can say about Detroit is that their are quite a lot of cool cars running around..
Motor City..

Their are a couple places around here you can buy 110 octane gas but it's so expensive I've never even considered it..
Not like at a gas pump.. I think they just have 55 gal barrels of it, and saw some tin gallon cans of it somewhere else too but for like 13-15 $ a gallon iirc..
