So I was working on the AC, threw my keys on the floor with my tools, then later instinctively locked the car when I shut the door. Of course, I never bothered to get an extra key (only got one from the PO).
I have AAA, so yay, right? The locksmith couldn't get in the car. He tried a slim jim, and he tried wedging the door open to slip a bladder in between the door and frame, but couldn't get it open far enough to get the bladder in there.
What's the best way to do this, surely I'm not the first idiot to encounter this problem _________________ -----------------------------------------

Don't think you have a lot of options. Take the vin to a porsche dealer and have a key made? Not sure that can be done on an older car. Find replacement glass from a "yard" and break whatever window you have a replacement for? Or, what I'd try, take the key for the 928 and slide it in and out while trying to turn it at the same time. Also insert the key and lightly tap it with a hammer while trying to turn it. None of that will probably work but...worth a try. |

That is my current plan of action. It looks pretty easy in the video, but I'm having a bit more trouble. Partly my seal is old and need replacing (opportunity!) and partly I'm paranoid about breaking something, but it does seem doable.
As for the 928 key, it's not remotely similar to the 924 key. Significantly bigger, I don't think it would fit the lock at all.
OK this is funny, I was just thinking to myself if only I had taken a picture of the key I could send it off to keysforclassics, and then I remembered...I did! I even found the picture. So that is a perfect solution, except for the wait. So I'm going to do that, but I'm still popping that window out (I hope) since I've partially butchered the seal already anyway.

Plastic packing band, folded in half creating a loop, prise the top of the door open with a screwdriver wrapped in a rag, slide the band into the top of the door opening and slide it down the to lock pin on top of the door trim, loop the banding around the head of the lock pin and give it a sharp pull, voila! door is open and no damage.........simples _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I just locked myself out of my E36 the other day and ended up exploding my drivers door window in my face trying to pry a gap open to reach my keys..
Boom! she went and I was bleeding from like 20 little cuts on my arms and face, lol..
Luckily I had another window sitting and threw it in, but what a mess!!
Think it happened because I didn't have my battery terminals tightened from borrowing its battery all the time.. Made the locks freak out.. And ofcourse my spare key was in the glovebox too, because I'm kindof in the middle of moving..
I like the rear quarter window idea too for the 924, and you can probably get a used one quite reasonably from someone parting a car if you end up accidentally breaking it.. I kinda doubt they are in super high demand.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Update! Got the rear quarter out. Slightly butchered the seal, more because it's old and deteriorating than any other reason. I used the "string method" to get it back in, which worked pretty well, only I'm not sure if there's a trick to getting the metal insert for the seal back in? I wasn't having much luck there so I've left it off for now. If anyone has a tip for that, please share. _________________ -----------------------------------------

Dammit. I was afraid of that. Well, I need to order a replacement anyway, and I have some slightly less crappy rear speakers I've been meaning to install, so I'll make a project of that soon.

Porsche has only 4 diffrent keys for the 924.Get some Friends to Exchange keys…..
Also you can remove the small plastic cover from the door handle take the screw out,remove handle far enough to reach the unlock mechanism.

I locked myself out of my car when I drove something like 200 miles to go test drive a boxter. I ended up using a coat hangar to pull the unlock latch up from the outside, going through the lower window seal on the door, and made it home as though it never happened _________________ 1979 924 (Daily driver EFI)
